What Lawyers Really Need To Know About Pensions

February 16, 2015 1:08 pm

How we as lawyers deal with pensions within divorce proceedings has changed dramatically over the last couple of years.

We at Barnes Family Law have organised a seminar which will provide practical guidance on how to deal with pensions from initial advice through to the instruction of an actuary.

The course is suitable for all levels of PQE and will provide a valuable insight into the world of pensions from a practical point of view.

We have secured two excellent speakers who have a wealth of knowledge both on pensions and who regularly deal with pensions within divorce proceedings. Phil O’connor is a Resolution Accredited Independent Financial Advisor.  Peter Moore is the Managing Director of BDM and is a Resolution Affiliate Member. He has over forty years experience in the financial services industry. BDM is one of the main firms providing high quality actuarial expert witness pensions reports.

The seminar will include:

○ an overview of various different types of pensions and how the benefits are paid
○RED FLAGS: What to look for a what might constitute a higher risk to solicitors
○what infomation do we need from our clients to offer best advice
○good practice for lowering risk
○when to use an IF
○examples of success stories
○What is CETV
○options available of divorce
