We as family lawyers have no doubt at some point in our careers been asked a question like this by a parent: “how old do they have to be before they can come to court” or  “how old is it before they can decide if they want to see ‘x’ and how often”.

Click the link to the detailed article below written by an experienced independent social worker which looks at the various different issues surrounding children’s voices being heard and the complications, such as coaching by a parent or other family members, and reporting the actual words the child has spoken and the context of their views.

The article very comprehensively deals with the topic and is definitely worth a read.
